Private lessons versus classes

All guitar lessons are tailored to the individual student's need and level. All lessons, with the exception of Minny Musicians, are scheduled as private lessons to best ensure that each student receives the attention they require. You may arrange however to share your private lesson with another student and thus share the cost as well. However, please keep in mind that students make the most advancement in a one on one setting.

Class descriptions

Minny Musicians (ages 3-4)
This class is very fun for your little musician's first music class. Kids will learn the structure of music and rhythm as well as music notation, through use of musical games and props.

Intro to Music and Guitar (ages 4-6)
This is designed for the very young musician who would like to learn more about music and hone in on the guitar as their instrument of choice. Kids will continue to learn the structure of music and rhythm as well as music notation, through use of games and musical instruments. In addition, they will be introduced to proper sitting position, hand placement and technique. They will also learn chords, scales, music notation, sight reading and more. A favorite part of class is when students are asked to play along with their instructor in creating a song of their own, or learning one to add to their repertoire.

Guitar Theory I (ages 7-9)
This class is designed for students ready to move on from the Intro to Music, or students ages 7-9 at any level. The lesson plan is tailored to every student's uniqure level and learning speed. Since they are still at a fairly young age however, appropriate songs and memory games will be utilized to keep the students interested and engaged. Students will be introduced to or build on their knowledge of proper sitting position, hand placement and technique. They will also learn chords, scales, music notation, sight reading, improvising and writing their own music. In addition, they will be allowed to choose favorite songs to learn how to play. All guitar students will be taught both classical and contemporary music for a well rounded repertoire.

Guitar Theory II (ages 10-adult)
This class is structured for "serious" students who want to learn guitar, but have fun as well. It is tailored to the level of the students and may be taken as a first year student or one who has studied much longer. Proper guitar technique as well as an in depth knowledge of music theory is emphasized. This includes building on proper sitting position, hand placement, chords, scales, music notation, sight reading, arpeggios, modes, time signatures and more. A favorite part of class is when students are assisted in improvising and writing their own music. In addition, they will choose their own music to play. All guitar students will be taught both classical and contemporary music for a well rounded repertoire.

Intensified Guitar and Theory III (ages teen/adult)
This class is structured in the same manner as Guitar and Theory but is lengthened. It is designed for students who wish to accelerate their advancement, or would like to spend additional time on theory and composition. This class is recommended only for intermediate students.

Semi - Private (shared private lesson)

These lessons require special effort on the instructor's part. Please add $5 to these lessons.

For in your home private lessons scheduled outside the Portland/Metro area please add $5 to help defray traveling cost for the instructor.
